The brook that meanders through Potterspury varies in height and flow according to the time of year and weather conditions. Progress is sometimes impeded by vegetation and trees or even dams created from a build-up of debris. At other times, after especially heavy rainfall, it breaks its banks and fills the flood meadows or even the roads.
Thanks to Jon and Andrew, our environmental co-ordinators, for removing a particularly large tree, which had blown over some time ago, with earth silting up around it. Wrapped with extensive ivy growth, it was stuck across the banks with only a tiny gap left for the water to flow under.
