Northamptonshire County Council is consulting all residents about the draft budget for 2018-19. The Council is forced to make savings of £9.6m in Phase 1 and they propose to do this by
- A redesign of library services which may include a number of library closures
- Reductions in Trading Standards
- Reductions in Highways Maintenance and winter maintenance
- The removal of bus subsidies across the county
Potterspury Parish Council shares the concern of many residents and will be holding an extra parish council meeting on 22 November to discuss the draft proposal and to respond to NCC.
Perhaps the most worrying item is the impact of cutting subsidised bus services, notably the Number 90 and 90a, as well as the County Connect Service.
Our county councillor, Allan Walker has made a series of suggestions to district councillors from South Northamptonshire District Council as to how local parishes could work together to take over the bus service and we await developments.
The only faint hope is that the Number 90 serves conveys many people to the health centre in Stony, so this might provide a stay of execution.
The consultation process closes on 1 December and we urge all residents to make their views known to the council. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
